Here we give the ASUS Rog Strix G531 Review! ASUS returns with its Rog Strix G531, a PC clearly oriented towards video games. This laptop, equipped with a lot of power as well as a very good graphics card (depending on configuration), promises to run all the latest games in Full HD at least. We wanted to know more about this PC. Today we present our full Strix g531 review.
Our detailed test of the ASUS Rog Strix G531
Before starting this test, we would like to draw your attention to the different variations of this model. Indeed, the latter sees its hardware configuration changed in many ways. For our test, we used the Asus ROG STRIX-G-G531GT-AL041T version.
However, we will cover the Strix g531 review a few times and we will be sure to mention it at these times. You can also consult our comparison of gaming laptops to see other models. Now that that is said, let’s move on to our test!
✅ A quick tour of the computer
Specifically for gaming purposes, this computer is available in many different hardware configurations. This model is therefore a real chameleon because of the possibilities fitted at the factory: there is necessarily a version of the Rog Strix G531 that will match your budget as your needs.
With great power both in its overall configuration and in the graphics resources (GPU), it is an excellent choice for running the most recent video games that are greedy in hardware resources.
✅ Physical appearance
When we discover this computer and give the g531 review, the backlit keyboard side in several colors throws directly! Is it a simple gadget or is it a great help in some games or software? The 15-inch panel fits well into the sleek and robust looking chassis. This chassis is exclusively made of plastic, this does not prevent you from feeling that this computer is designed to be solid over time, which is necessarily reassuring, given its purchase price.

Who says plastic does not necessarily imply poor quality. And Asus demonstrates it with this product since the finish is king here: between the brushed aspect of the chassis and the rigidity of the parts.to limit the risk of breakage, we are on a high-end laptop. At the beginning of the paragraph, we were just discussing the backlighting of the keys. The G531 goes much further since an LED strip illuminates the contours under the computer. For us, that’s a bit too much but fortunately, this option can be deactivated at any time.
✅ Screen type
We are going to discover the beast in front of our 15-inch screen in Full HD resolution. The latter indicates a maximum brightness of 300 nits, which seems a bit weak compared to other computers in the same price bracket. Although the screen is anti-reflective, offering it more light output would have amplified the anti-reflection result in bright sunlight.
However, we appreciate the refresh rate of 120Hz of the panel, very suitable for gamer use since it is reactive. Speaking of this screen, we will note that we have here an IPS panel, allowing us to obtain a wide viewing angle. We can therefore play two on the same PC since the second player will not need to be right in front of the screen to see it correctly. This scenario will occur more often on the 17-inch version than on the 15-inch models. These are often too narrow to play two on the same screen.
✅ Keyboard and Touchpad
We approached our test by talking about the backlit keyboard. After digging a bit, it turns out that this is only pure decoration since it is not possible to program only certain zones of certain colors. Damage because it could have been a key function for a gaming computer to visualize the keyboard shortcuts in two steps three movements.
As for the touchpad, we found it to be precise and very responsive. We are on a quality component, comfortable in use. What’s more, Asus installed two physical buttons thus limiting the risk of bad clicks.
The connectivity panel is rather large on this computer. It also seems quite logical since the computer is mainly intended for gaming. Gamers have the need to plug various peripherals into their machine. We, therefore, find no less than 3 USB 3.1 Type-A ports, 1 USB-C port, an HDMI port, and a 3.5mm mini-jack input to connect headphones or headphones.
It does not stop here since we also have an RJ45 socket to join a wired Ethernet network. As this grip tends to become scarce on newer laptops, that’s a big bonus we’re being offered here!
✅ Internal components
We are here on a computer for gamers, so we expect power well distributed between the components and especially good graphics performance (GPU). Here are the internal components of the version on which our test is based:
- Intel Core i7-10750H processor
- 16 GB DDR4 RAM
- 1 TB hard drive
- 256 GB SSD drive
- Nvidia GTX 1650 graphics card
This configuration is powerful. We appreciate the presence of a hard drive coupled with an SSD drive. This allows the system (Windows) and the software essential for its operation to be installed on the SSD disk. The rest will go to the hard disk drive (HDD). The computer is made more fluid.
This computer is intended for gamers, the different versions of the model change from each other mainly by the graphics card that is integrated. This is how we will find different models that can embed other GPUs, such as the one with an Nvidia RTX 2060 6GB for example.
✅ Battery life
Computers for gaming are rarely top of the range. And this Asus is no exception to the rule since the autonomy announced between two charges flirts with 5 hours. This is normal in view of the energy power consumed by the internal components. We are therefore far from the autonomy performance of ultra-portable.
But we are not in the same schoolyard. While an ultra-portable weighs about 1 kilo, this computer weighs a little less than 2 and a half kilos. Mobility isn’t its strong suit, but we know you won’t choose it for that reason. On the other hand, the power supply unit is not imposing and can be transported without a problem.
✅ In-car audio system
Surprising as it may sound, we have found that the speaker system itself does better than processing the audio signal through the mini-jack port (headphones or earphones). Indeed, we are used to seeing the opposite scenario: overly garish built-in speakers with cramped and poorly managed sound while plugging a listening device through the mini-jack solves the problem.
Here we have small speakers that do very well at reproducing the sound fairly faithfully. On this model, we found that the low mids and bass were much more present than on other computers. However, we expected better from the headphone jack. This will suffice for use with a lambda helmet but will find its limits if you plug in a very high-end helmet.
ASUS Rog Strix G531 Review – Conclusion
Available in several configurations, mainly varying the integrated graphics card, this laptop is quite accessible and everyone can find the answer to their needs depending on the choice of model variation. We recommend this laptop PC instead for someone who needs a dedicated video game machine.
Indeed, its size linked to its weight as well as its somewhat light autonomy (in comparison with all computers and not gaming PCs) will not make it a major ally for mobile use. However, given the performance of this computer, we recommend it for gaming use or even editing and editing videos.
